Postcode concordance

Every postcode matched to ABS statistical areas (SA1–SA4, greater capital city, state), remoteness, electorates, council areas, postal areas and suburbs, as a CSV file. Choose the options below, then download.

ASGS edition

Edition 3 (2021) lines up with Census 2021 and with the postal areas, suburbs and electorates. Edition 4 (2026) has the current SA1–SA4 codes. Other area types have one edition and are the same in both.

One row per

A postcode often covers several suburbs; "postcode + suburb" keeps them apart.

Matching

1:1 gives one wide row with a single code per area type. 1:many gives one row per area, with its street addresses, people and dwellings and all three shares.

Biggest by

How "biggest share" is measured for 1:1. People and dwellings are Census 2021 counts; addresses are from G-NAF.

PO Box postcodes

These postcodes have no street addresses, so no areas can be worked out for them. Included rows are marked coverage = state_only.

Shares are worked out from the location of every G-NAF street address, and Census 2021 mesh block counts are shared out among the addresses in each mesh block. Sources and attribution.

Before you download

This data is built from open government sources (G-NAF, ABS ASGS and Census 2021) and may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Postcodes have no official boundaries: areas are assigned from address locations, and Census counts are shared out among addresses by this site, not by the ABS. PO Box and large-volume-recipient postcodes aren't covered.

It's provided as is, without warranty. Check anything important against the original sources. This is an independent project, not affiliated with any government.
